Chapter 968 – Sharing the Heritage
by spirapiraJust as the energy stone’s glow dimmed to its faintest, the beams enveloping Mo Lan and Alfred vanished, and the Resonance Device ceased its operation.
“It… it stopped?” Tobias stammered.
“Did the energy run out?” Viola squinted, leaning in for a closer look.
“No…” Celestian’s voice rang out. “There’s still a sliver of energy left.”
Tobias let out a long breath of relief, wiping away nonexistent cold sweat from his temple. “Phew… it finally hit the upper limit! Scared me half to death — I thought she was going to drain an entire energy stone before stopping!”
He had instinctively assumed that Mo Lan’s psychic power had finally reached its saturation point for reception, triggering the device’s safety mechanism.
Mo Lan felt the energy flow carrying the heritage memories disappear and opened her eyes, somewhat reluctant for it to end.
She looked around, meeting gaze after gaze focused on her — filled with shock, scrutiny, and disbelief — and felt slightly puzzled.
“Did my psychic power hit its limit?” Mo Lan asked uncertainly. “I don’t think I felt any discomfort… but the transmission of knowledge seems to have stopped.”
“It wasn’t your psychic power reaching its limit,” Alfred’s voice came. This old Elf who had lived over eight hundred years and witnessed countless storms now regarded Mo Lan with an expression of utmost complexity.
“It’s that I temporarily have no more heritage memories to share with you.
I am eight hundred years old, merely one step away from entering level 19, demigod.
Through growing strength and the accumulation of time, I have unlocked nearly ninety percent of the Solar Corona Elf heritage memories.
I just shared all of them with you.”
His gaze burned as he stared at Mo Lan. “You received in one session what took me eight hundred years to gradually unlock and absorb, and… you look like you handled it with ease.
I have no doubt whatsoever that if my level were sufficient, you would be entirely capable of receiving the complete Solar Corona Elf heritage in a single session!”
The atrium erupted into commotion.
Every Elf present was shaken to the core by Alfred’s words!
“What? All of his unlocked heritage memories? Received all at once?!” Tobias leapt to his feet, eyes round as saucers.
“Moira, do you really not have that feeling of… your brain about to burst, information overflowing?” another mid-rank Astral Elf couldn’t help but ask, his voice trembling.
Every time he unlocked new heritage memories or received small portions of shared heritage from others, he would suffer headaches for ten days to half a month. He simply could not imagine the terrifying torrent of information that a level 18 Solar Corona Elf’s heritage memories condensed into a single transmission would represent.
Mo Lan shook her head earnestly. “No. I actually feel like… I could take in more.”
She genuinely found absorbing those memory fragments to be effortlessly smooth — reminiscent of the satisfying rush she’d felt back at the Witch Academy when transcribing magic books.
If only there could be more…
Everyone felt a collective moment of breathlessness.
“Let me try sharing with you next!”
A fierce curiosity blazed in Viola’s eyes. Without waiting for anyone else to react, she walked straight to the sharing end of the Resonance Device and signaled Celestian to prepare.
Celestian forcibly suppressed the tidal waves of astonishment in his heart. He too was desperate to know where Mo Lan’s limit actually lay.
Had Alfred’s heritage memories happened to land right at her upper limit, or… was her capacity truly unfathomably deep?
He swiftly produced a brand-new energy stone radiating a full, vibrant glow and restarted the Resonance Device.
The beam lit up once more, connecting Viola and Mo Lan. This time, it ended slightly faster.
But compared to the typical duration when others shared heritage memories, it was still astonishingly slow.
After the beam dissipated, Viola was the first to open her eyes. On her usually expressionless face, there was now a visible hint of stunned bewilderment.
She looked at Mo Lan, then at Celestian, her voice somewhat dry. “The portions of my heritage memories that have been unlocked… I’ve shared them all with Moira.”
She was considerably younger than Alfred and slightly lower in professional level, so the total volume of heritage memories she had unlocked was relatively smaller — but it was still knowledge she had spent centuries slowly unlocking and absorbing, bit by bit.
The freshly replaced energy stone was nearly drained again, clearly indicating that this sharing session had also involved a massive volume of heritage.
“Moira, how do you feel?” Celestian’s voice carried a tension he himself hadn’t noticed.
“I think I’m still fine.” Mo Lan looked at Celestian with anticipation.
Now all she was missing were the Astral Elf heritage memories.
Celestian saw the look of wanting more on her face and took a deep breath. “Then next, it’s my turn.”
He walked to the sharing end, replacing Viola.
At the same time, he placed every remaining energy stone he had onto the Resonance Device. “The Astral Elves have made great strides in magical research over the years, and the volume of our heritage memories exceeds that of all other Elf branches combined. If you feel any discomfort, I’ll stop immediately…”
The Resonance Device activated for the third time, its beam connecting him and Mo Lan.
This time, the process lasted an extraordinarily long while.
When the beam finally dissipated smoothly and the Resonance Device powered down, more than half the glow had faded from the energy stones Celestian had loaded.
Celestian slowly opened his eyes, a dazed expression crossing his face.
Mo Lan opened her eyes at the same moment.
The Astral Elves truly lived up to their reputation as the race currently leading magical development across the entire Seran world — the heritage memory content was immense.
She looked at Celestian. “The Astral Elves’ achievements in magic are truly awe-inspiring!”
Nature Elves focused on studying the forces of nature, Solar Corona Elves focused on studying the power of radiance, Deep Shadow Elves focused on studying the power of shadow — only the Astral Elves, while focusing on studying the power of the stars, simultaneously pushed the cultivation of psychic power to its extreme. Even humans, who possessed greater natural talent for psychic power, could not match them in this regard.
Not only that, but the Astral Elf heritage memories she received also contained spell structures reverse-engineered from magic web spell models, along with a vast body of magical theory.
This showed that the Astral Elves were still, like the ancient high Elves before them, dedicated to researching the fundamental principles behind various forms of magic — even attempting to create new magic.
She had only been here for a single day and already gained so much. The prophecy she had cast before deciding to come to Quelariel had been well worth it.
Celestian paused for a moment, then spoke.
“Your psychic power is also truly astounding… it has already surpassed the bounds of my understanding. May I ask — how did you cultivate your psychic power to this level in such a short time?
The power of the stars is universally acknowledged as the most effective for nourishing and tempering psychic power, and we Astral Elves have devoted ourselves to this pursuit for generations.
And yet… even the most deeply accomplished elders of my kin that I know of could not possibly possess psychic power as vast as yours. It simply… defies all reason.”
